PC SADD Conducts Seatbelt Survey
August 22, 2007
The Putnam County Health Department and Putnam County High School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) conducted a seatbelt survey from 4:00-6:00 p.m., July 3, at the Putnam County Fairgrounds prior to the Rhonda Vincent concert.
Students surveyed 33 vehicles with a total of 69 occupants and found 35% were not wearing seatbelts and 65% were.
When those not wearing their seatbelts were asked why, the common response was, "I wasn't going very far." One person who was wearing a seatbelt commented, "It's the only way to go."
The Putnam County High School SADD members plan on competing in the Battle of the Belt competition again this year, which is sponsored by MoDot and involves high schools throughout the state. The goal is to increase seatbelt usage among teenagers. Last year Putnam County's SADD won the regional award for having the highest seatbelt usage and the most improved.
