Principal's Corner - 8-31-07

Labor Day weekend marks a special time here in Putnam County. It's hard to believe that we just had the fifth annual All-School Reunion. I appreciate the efforts of many people who put together activities that everyone can be involved with. I thought the car show was a nice addition this year.

We've had an outstanding start to the school year, class changes are complete, and everyone seems ready to participate in the Putnam County Fair.

Please feel welcome to come visit any time you have the opportunity to see our new agriculture shop. Mr. Morris and Mr. Bondy continue to work hard to make our facility top-notch. The students have a lot more room to work, and I believe the added space creates a safer work environment. Students also seem to enjoy turf management, which is a new class this year. Thirteen students are enrolled.

Mr. Godfrey has a crew of nine students this semester and as soon as they pass their safety tests, they will continue the work inside the new Education Center.

Mrs. Kertz has taken an early initiative in her family and consumer science classes to insure that her students know what FCCLA is (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America). I had the opportunity to visit with some of them in the library last week as they researched the organization. Students who are interested in joining FCCLA this year may find out more information at a meeting during activity period on September 10.

We have 43 high school students in band this year, and they sound great! Today was the first time I saw the band out practicing for parades. Unfortunately, they were trying to get back to the school in time for 2nd block classes by the time I caught up with them, so I didn't get to watch them march. Miss Misty Fox is the new band instructor, and she is doing a fine job. If you miss their performance at the fair this week, you can see them at our first home football game versus Trenton on September 14. They will also march in parades at Carrolton Band Day on September 22nd and at Pancake Day in Centerville on September 29th.

DECA is selling t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jerseys prior to homecoming this year, under the direction of Mr. Brandon Lynch. Sales begin on September 10 and end on September 21.

Homecoming is October 12 versus Clark County. The football team had their season-opener versus Princeton last Friday night. The coaches and players have contributed a lot of time and energy, and their effort was evident on the playing field.

The softball team is off to a great start with two wins under their belt, and they served as hosts for the Putnam County Varsity Tournament on Saturday.

If you are interested in being involved with our Booster Club this year, please attend the first meeting on Wednesday, September 5, in the high school commons after football practice and the team meal.
