Seven members of the Putnam County FFA chapter recently attended the 80th annual National FFA Convention, which was held in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 24-27, 2007. Those attending were as follows: Stacy, Brady, Marty, Jamie, Tanner, Elizabeth, Michael, and adviser Randy Morris.
While at the convention, the Putnam County FFA members attended a career show where there were hundreds of exhibits from colleges and agricultural businesses. They also attended two convention sessions highlighted by motivational speakers Rick Rigsby and Henry Winkler. Ribsby is the team chaplin for the Texas A&M football team, and Henry Winkler is an award winning actor and writer.
The Putnam County FFA members also toured an Elk farm, visited the NCAA Hall of Champions museum and attended the Bulls and Broncs professional rodeo event.
The final activity for the trip was attending the American
Degree convention session where four graduate Putnam County FFA
members received the American FFA Degree. The American FFA Degree
is the highest level of membership that an FFA member can attain
and is only attained by 1% of FFA membership. Those receiving the
American Degree were: Amy McCormack, Bradley Hines, Chelsea
Triplett, and Delhi Valentine Rowland.
The National FFA Convention has been held each year since 1928. The convention is the largest youth convention held in the country and is attended annually by over 50,000 members and guests.
