News from your Guidance Counselor
November 2007

Dear Seniors and Parents:
This is the second of two newsletters sent to you from my office. The main intent of this newsletter is to let you know of the local scholarships available to your child. Included in this mailing are most of the applications for which your child is eligible to apply. Any new scholarships that I do not know about yet will be given out at school. Notification of those scholarships can be found on the bulletin board outside the counselor’s office.
SUGGESTIONS FOR FILLING OUT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS:
- Type them.
- Check all spelling.
- Check grammar. If not sure, ask a teacher for help.
- Make sure you have application in by the deadline date.
- Put information on a computer disk. Several of the applications ask for the same thing. Why reinvent the wheel?
- Apply for ALL that you are eligible for. Scholarships aren’t always given to just the top students in the class.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
All of these scholarships are due by 3:30 P.M. on February 8, 2008. If a date is listed on the application, simply ignore it. If this due date becomes a snow day, then the packet will be due the next school day in session. This should give you plenty of time to complete this packet.
A box will be placed in my office for scholarship applications. All applications should be turned in by the end of the school day at 3:30 on the deadline date. If you complete the packet earlier, you may go ahead and hand it in. If you are sick or unable to be here on February 8, 2008, please have someone bring the applications to school for you.
It is also important to fill out the FAFSA form. This form must be filled out before A+ monies will be used for A+ students. Plan to get taxes done in a timely fashion. However, if you cannot get your taxes done early, you may estimate the figures on the form. You will have to redo it after your taxes are done.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at school at (660) 947-2481, Ext. 308.
