New FFA Members Honored

The Putnam County FFA Chapter recently
held two activities to honor their newest FFA members. The FFA
Greenhand Breakfast and Initiation were held Nov. 1, 2007, and the
FFA Greenhand Banquet was held Nov. 5, 2007.
First year members in the FFA are called
“Greenhands.” The Greenhand Degree is the pin given to new members
to signify their completion of the Greenhand Degree requirements.
The three other degrees of membership are the Chapter FFA Degree,
State FFA Degree and the American FFA Degree.
The Greenhand breakfast was held Nov. 1,
2007, in the agricultural shop. During the breakfast FFA members
cooked sausage and pancakes for themselves and the new Greenhand
FFA Members. Greenhand members were initiated by painting their
hands green. The breakfast was attended by approximately 50
members.
The Greenhand Banquet was held Nov. 5,
2007, in the high school commons. The banquet was attended by
approximately 135 members and guests. The meal at the banquet
consisted of chili and carry-in dishes brought by the members.
During the Greenhand Banquet, the Putnam County FFA chapter awarded
the first-year members with their bronze Greenhand pins and the
second year members with their silver Chapter FFA Degree pins. The
31 new Greenhand members are Austin Bruce, Luke B., Shaleigh D.,
Kyle G., Sara G., Dallas H., Kyle H., Dathan H., Alex M., Conor M.,
Morgen M., Mattie N., Nathan P., Brandon S., Kailee S., Ransem T.,
Stephanie V., Josh W., Ryan W., Jake W., Katelyn B., Brody H.,
Jordan H.,Tracie J., Samantha L., Ashten M., Dylan R., Tyler S.,
Kelsey S., Chelsea S., and Levi T.
The second year FFA members are Shelton A.,
Shelby B., James E., Courtney G., Wyatt M., Wayne R., Kelsey R.,
Justin R., Sarah R., Colby R., Daniel S., Cole Y., Jessica D., Rick
G., Cheyanne H., Nyle K., Stefani L., Jessica L., Daniel M.,
Brandon S., and Alisha Y.
Also during the Greenhand Banquet, new
Assistant FFA officers were installed. The assistant officers were
selected through an interview process, which was held October 30,
2007. The assistant officers were interviewed by the regular
chapter officers and asked a series of questions. Those selected
for assistant officer positions are: president, Sara G.; 1st Vice
President Kole Y.; 2nd Vice President Mattie N.; Secretary Sara R.;
Treasurer Daniel M.; Reporter Kelsey R.; Sentinel Jessica D.;
Historian Shelby B.
