Congratulations to the freshmen class!  They had the highest attendance rate for the month of December (97.83%).  They lead the attendance race over the sophomores, with the seniors and juniors both trailing behind.  Overall, high school students had a rate of 95.52% for December.  Our students earned a rate of 95.34%, for the fall semester, which is higher than our school average of 94.7% for the entire school year last year.  We plan to keep it up!  Please encourage your student to have a high rate of attendance.  The best way to achieve academic success is through attendance and positive participation in class!

This Friday will bring our Putnam County varsity basketball squads back to the home court, where we will face the North Shelby Raiders, beginning at 6 p.m.  Smokebuster students will sponsor a “Tobacco Free Throw” that evening.  Courtwarming is just around the corner (January 25), and FBLA is selling T-shirts, January 2-16.  If you are interested in showing your school spirit by purchasing a T-shirt, please look for an FBLA member or contact our FBLA sponsor, Miss Kathy Lorensen.

Please note a few inevitable changes to the basketball schedules due to winter weather.  The JV games versus Scotland County will be played at home, January 10 (postponed from December 10).  The JV games versus Trenton will be played at Trenton, February 14 (postponed from December 13).  The JV games, January 14, versus Princeton will be played at Princeton instead of at home.  Varsity games versus Centerville were originally scheduled for December 11.  Those games have been split, so that varsity and JV teams will play, with girls at home January 14, and boys at home February 14.  Finally, the printed schedules incorrectly state that the district tournament is at Maysville. The district tournament is at Albany this year.

Thanks to Putnam County State Bank for serving as a sponsor of our web site!  Please make sure to visit the site and see what’s going on in the district.  I especially urge you to read and thoughtfully consider a recent student editorial by Ashlen entitled “Boo to Who?”  It’s a long basketball season, and there is so much wisdom in her words.  Thanks, Ashlen!

Third quarter begins this week, and mid-term reports go home with students January 3.  I look forward to seeing a strong turnout for parent-teacher conferences this spring on March 18.  The school year continues to fly by once again!  Our snow day make-ups will be Tuesday, February 19 (for December 11), and Monday, March 24 (for December 12).

Happy new year!
