The Distraction by Jennifer
I would have never expected it the day it happened. I was with my four friends Sydney, Madison, Katie, and Chase at their aunt's house. It was a cool summer day of 2007. I had just crashed a golf cart!!
It all began when I went to my friend's house. We were playing and her two cousins came over with a golf cart. The oldest cousin, who was 10 years old, drove us around the neighborhood.
Then Chase drove us to their Aunt June's house in the backyard. Chase and Madison went inside to get some supplies and left Sydney, Katie, and me outside. Sydney drove the cart around for a couple of minutes. After she stopped driving, I decided to drive, even though I had never done it before. "Hey, how hard can it be?" I asked myself. "I mean, almost anyone could do that." So I started and right as I started to drive, Madison and Chase came outside and distracted me. There was a pole in the way. I wasn't looking at it; I was looking at Chase and Madison.
Later, only a few short seconds later, it happened! I hit the pole! You could hear the screeching, but above that were the screams of Sydney, who was in the passenger seat beside me, and Katie, who was in the back. I wasn't paying any attention to that. All I was thinking about was how much trouble I was in. By then, the golf cart was up in the air. When it stopped going up, we jumped off. I looked at Chase and Madison, who had been watching the entire thing. They just gaped in shock. Chase came over and tugged on the cart and it came down. We tried to get the pole in place, but it wouldn't budge. So we left it. We all calmed down and pretended like nothing happened.
So you can see, crashing the golf cart was pretty scary at the time. I never got in trouble, but I always felt a little guilty. I learned not to get distracted when driving a golf cart. And just so you know, that pole that I knocked crooked is still standing crooked today!
