The Collision Before Show-Me      by Cody

It all started at the sale barn.  The squealing of the tires and the collision of the cars echoed through my head and the heads of the my brother's friends.  It all happened this summer.

My day started when I got in the van one late afternoon.  I was on the way to the sale barn to help collect money for my brother's Show-Me team.  After awhile, we finally got to the sale barn.  Then I ate a few donuts.  While I walked in the door to visit with my grandma and grandpa, I gulped down my last bite.  After having an interesting talk, I went back outside and started making signs to convince people to come and have a wonderful, healthy dinner.

Later on, after making the signs, I went out by the road and started holding up the signs.  Then we started gaining more kids.  I decided to go over to the other side of the road.  THEN it happened.  Errrrrrr-Banggggggggggg!  My life flashed before my eyes!  A truck going 50 mph hit an old red Chevy car broadside.  Pieces of debris flew everywhere.  Both vehicles were totaled.  I noticed that the lady in the car was knocked out.  While I stood there in distress, I heard my mom in the distance saying, "Cody!  Cody!"  I ran over there and told her that I had been so close that my drink that was beside me got run over by the truck!

She said, "I don't really care, I just want to know if you are all right!"

I said, "Yes," and then she called 911.

Later, I went over and sat down.  I thought about what had happened.  While I sat there, I could hear sirens in the distance.  I got up and walked back over and watched all the cops and ambulances come and check on everybody.  They had a tow truck come and tow away both vehicles.

As you can see, I had quite a day!  While I stood there after the accident, my mom came back.  I smiled and laughed in some way.  She looked at me, shook her head, and gave me a great big hug.  Then we went over, sat down, and thought about my brush with death!
