HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS WEEK
This week has been very busy. Grade cards were sent home last week. Grade cards are a good reference indicator – showing areas of strength and also areas that need improvement. Please feel free to contact Mr. Reed or Ms. LeAnn if you have concerns that we may help with in the S.O.A.R. Program.
Mrs. Barbie Swiger, E-911 Coordinator, visited the classroom on Wednesday and presented information on emergencies and safety.
BUS INFORMATION
If notification is given that the regular school bus routes are running only on hard surfaces on any given day then the same policy will hold true for the S.O.A.R. bus route. If you have questions regarding the route, please feel free to contact me at 947-3361, ext. 392.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU
Thanks to Abbey’s dad for donating paper to be used with the S.O.A.R. Program. We have had others donating pencils, also. We appreciate your generosity.
PARENTS’ NIGHT ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 7
We are thrilled to announce that guest storyteller, Mr. Will Stuck, will be visiting Putnam County on Thursday evening, Feb. 7. Mr. Stuck is the director of the children’s department at the new East Hills Library in St. Joseph, Missouri. He has worked his way from the position of a page to his present position which boasts the highest average attendance in all the library system. Will continually finds new ways to reach children through books, participating in community children’s events, talking to parent’s groups and visiting local schools. His ability to tell stories has led to speaking opportunities on the subject of storytelling for the St. Joseph Youth Alliance, Eagle Communications Radio Stations, and various teacher and parent organizations. He has recently been selected as a trainer for the Missouri State Library, where he will be training other public and school librarians regarding summer reading programs.
Will is a native of St. Joseph, MO, and has had a love of books his whole life. He comes highly recommended as an extraordinary storyteller, bringing his stories to life with added entertainment and a touch of magic to reach the hearts of children.
We are very fortunate to have him share his talent and love for reading with Putnam County. S.O.A.R. parents and students are invited to have supper in the high school commons at 5:30-6:15 p.m. prior to his presentation at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school auditorium. Please reserve this date on your calendars and expect to have a wonderful evening filled with food, fun and entertainment!
UPCOMING EVENTS
Mrs. Tammy Casady will visit the classroom on Wednesday of next week. She is planning a cooking presentation which should be lots of fun and tasty, too!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
If I had
my child to raise over again
I'd build self-esteem first and the house later
I'd finger paint more and point the finger less
I would do less correcting and more connecting
I'd take my eyes off my watch and watch with my eyes
I would care to know less and know to care more
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites
I'd stop playing serious and seriously play
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars
I'd do more hugging and less tugging
I'd see the oak tree in the acorn more often
I would be firm less often and affirm much more
I'd model less about the love of power
And more about the power of love.
