Fire in the Hole!
Making Micro-Hindenbergs
by Andrew Garber
February 19, 2008
If you heard a loud explosion coming from Mr. Garber's room Feb 12, there was no need to be alarmed. Chemistry class was exploring the properties of hydrogen gas in preparation for a lab entitled "Making Micro-Hindenbergs."
Hydrogen is the same gas thought to have caused the Hindenberg to explode into flames, and we recreated this volatile reaction on a much smaller scale.
