Results of North Shelby Quiz Bowl Tournament

The Putnam County seventh and eighth grade quiz bowl teams competed at the North Shelby Quiz Bowl Tournament on February 9. The seventh grade bracket included twelve teams and the eighth grade bracket included fourteen teams. Both PC teams played three matches: vs. Brashear, vs. Scotland, and vs. Monroe City(7)/Marceline(8). The games were played in quarters, with the first and third quarters having 10 toss-up questions. Each question was worth ten points. Second and fourth quarters had five toss-up questions with bonus. Eight teams from each division advanced to the Championship Bracket for afternoon play.
The eighth grade team had a 1-2 win/loss record in the round robin, winning over Brashear 160-95. They were defeated by Scotland 220-80 and Marceline 125-100. The team was seeded eighth in the championship bracket, where they lost to Highland. Jake was chosen for the All Tournament team, averaging 50 points per game on toss-up questions. Team members were Josh, Jake, Ty, Mary, Klayton, William, and Clay. Results of the eighth grade bracket were first place-Scotland County, second place-Monroe City, third place-Knox County, and fourth place-Highland.
The seventh grade quiz bowl team split up into two teams at the tournament. One team had a 2-1 win-loss record in the morning, winning over Brashear 255-65 and Monroe City 240-85 and losing to Scotland 100-150. The team did make it to the championship round as third seed, where they were outscored by South Shelby 115-180. The second team lost their preliminary round games to Knox County, North Shelby, and Highland. Brett and Craig were chosen for the All Tournament team, averaging 55 and 47.5 points per game, respectively. Only the top eight players are selected for the all-star squad. Team members were Brett, Craig, Riley, Myles, Allen, and Levi. Results of the seventh grade bracket were first place-Scotland County, second place-South Shelby, third place-Clark County, and fourth place-Knox County.
