Sixth Grade Communication Arts Update

Sixth grade English classes have been working on research biography papers for the past two weeks. The students were asked to research a person who is currently famous.
The completed biographies consisted of five paragraphs: an introductory paragraph with a “hook,” three paragraphs containing relevant information about their chosen person, and a concluding paragraph.
While doing their research, the students were able to use new laptop computers that were recently purchased in the middle school for student use, along with the computers in the library. This allowed all students to work at the same time instead of having to take turns on the limited number of computers available in the library.
The students will now use their information to prepare a short oral presentation for the class. These presentations will be done on Thursday and Friday of this week.
Next week the 6th graders will be MAP testing. They will test on Tuesday and Wednesday. They will take the math section of the MAP test on Tuesday. The communication arts section of the test will begin Tuesday afternoon. They will finish this section on Wednesday.
To prepare for this test, we have been doing lots of practice questions in the same format that they are likely to see on the test. We have covered all of the information that students need for the test; now we’ll have to see if they can apply it!
