'08 MIDGET FOOTBALL

The 2008 football season will embark on a couple of new traditions.
On September 19, 2008, the Midgets will play a game at Truman State University against the 2007 Class I State Champion, the South Shelby Cardinals. This game will be played on Friday night under the lights and on TSU's new field turf. This is a two-year deal with Truman and South Shelby and hopefully something we can continue in future years. (In order to pick up the South Shelby game, we dropped Trenton. )
The next new tradition will be August 22
when we travel to the PIT to play in a jamboree. Teams there
will be Milan, Knox County and South Harrison. Putnam County
will get 28 plays against all three teams, 14 offensive and 14
defensive, and no special teams.
Some other changes to the schedule are that we lose Scotland County
in our district and pick up Princeton, making our district one of
the toughest in the
state.
Our
upcoming season begins at Brookfield. This is a tough way to start,
but will be a good test to check our progress.
The Midgets have been working hard, during the off season this
year, and are very optimistic about what’s to come. We have had 26
of 36 returning players in the weight room a minimum of 80% of the
time, and they are all getting stronger and faster. This year’s
team will be a fast, in-your-face team that will back down to no
one!
We are making plans to go to Northwest
Missouri State University to a full contact football camp on June
13. Last year we went to Truman, but they are not holding a camp
this year. At the Northwest camp we will again compete in condensed
games against other schools. Last year we took 18 kids, and this
year we are looking to take 30 or more. This is a great time for
the players to get to know each other and start to come together as
a team.
This is going to be a great season for the MIDGET Football program,
so don't miss it!
