Room 22 is Full of Growing Students!
We are all studying plants.

April showers bring May...lima beans?
This semester our class grew
a lima bean plant! It started as a seed in a plastic baggie and we
all watched while it sprouted and started to grow. Soon it outgrew
the baggie and then it outgrew the styrofoam cup we transplanted it
to. We finally moved it to a large pot and built a trellis out of
coat hangers for it to climb.
Here are some fun ways we
have learned through watching our plant grow:
- Some of us learned about graphing and charting though keeping track of all four original bean plants. (The other three died off).
- Some of us learned about the concepts of more and less as we helped water the plant.
- Some of us learned about keeping track of change by marking how much the plant grew every day.
- All of us learned about parts of plants and what plants need to live when we made posters. (Make sure you see the picture of our posters on this page or stop by the hall outside Room 22 before the end of the school year.)
If you would like to help your student learn more about plants, here are some great web sites (click on the different colored words to jump to the web page):
- BBC has a fun game about what plants need to grow. Some of the students played this in class. It also has a quiz that you can help your child take to learn more.
- Plants 4 Kids promises "NO BORING PLANTS" and features tons of cool plants and great pictures.
- This YouTube video is awesome! It shows radish plants growing using time lapse photography.
- This other YouTube video is also really cool. It is a commercial that sets growing flowers to a funny song. It is a great way to make plant growth exciting.
