History and Art

The 8th grade American History students have incorporated art into their study of westward expansion. They learned how many Americans crossed the Appalachians through Daniel Boone’s Wilderness Trail and floated down the Ohio River on flat boats.
Each family would clear the land and homestead in what they thought would be the very best place. North of the Ohio River, land was systematically divided into townships while south of the river landmarks served as boundaries.
Students were given the opportunity to draw any of these events or capture the adventure and emotion with a six-day diary. Many students excelled, helping all of us visualize the possibilities.
