High School Band Contest

by Misty Fox

August 08, 2001

On March 29 the high school band travelled to Kirksville to compete in State Contest for large ensembles.  They performed two pieces that they have worked on most of the semester - "Blue Ridge Overture" and "Yorkshire Ballad."

After performing the prepared pieces, the group went to a sight-reading room where they performed a piece of music they had never seen before.  The group received a 2 rating on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the best possible rating.  The students did an excellent job and should be very proud of their score.

The following weekend, April 5, several solos and ensembles from the high school went to Salisbury High School to earn a rating for district music festival.  Of those students who went, we had one ensemble and three solos receive a 1 rating and qualify for State contest.  Solos and ensembles are extra groups that the students choose to be in that are separate from the normal band class.

It has been a busy semester - next time you see the band will be at graduation.  Hope to see you there!
