Girls Win Back-to-Back Conference Championships

Boys Finish a Strong 3rd

by Kevin Miles

May 07, 2008

The PCHS Girls Track Team walked away with their second Conference Championship in as many years, and the boys team caused some excitement in the final race of the day.

The girls were led by some numerous conference champions:  Katie in the Shot and Discus, Sarah the 200m, Ashley in the 100m Hurdles, and Ashlen in the 300m Hurdles.  The girls took first in three of the 4 relays and had numerous All-Conference runner--1st and 2nd are All-Conference.

The boys team finished third behind four conference champions: Mason in the 1600m and 800m runs and Levi in the 300m hurdles and the 3200m relay.

The boys add the most excitement of the day.  Just before the boys 1600m relay, they heard in the announcements that Brookfield was beating Clark County by 2 points, going into the final race.

The race began and was pretty much a 3-horse race through each lap that went by.  The fans and kids from Clark were rooting for us to beat Brookfield, and it came down to the final 100m of the race.

The Putnam boys finished 2nd, behind Clark but in front of Brookfield, allowing Clark County to win the Conference Championship.

A final note: Sara R. broke the long standing 200m dash record of 26.2, held by Kadie Campbell and Stephanie Scott, by running a 26.03.
