WEB SITE INFORMATION
I would like to remind each of you that the S.O.A.R. Newsletter and other pertinent information regarding enrollment, future field trips, etc. may be found on the school web site at www.putnamcountyr1.net. The video that the students did on bullying may be viewed there also. I hope that you will be able to take advantage of this communication resource and that it will keep you continually updated on activities and events. This will be especially important this summer as I will try to keep activities and schedules updated to assist you in making your summer plans. And, as always, if you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
It’s hard to believe that next week will be our last week of school. I have planned some special activities for all S.O.A.R. students in the elementary gym from 12:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you or another designated person is planning to pick up your child or children during this time, please note this change and sign them out there. At 5:00 p.m., the students will be escorted to the S.O.A.R. Education Building to meet the bus (for those riding home on the bus) and/or wait for the arrival of their parents.
FIELD TRIP TO KIRKSVILLE AQUATIC CENTER ON JUNE 7, 2008
I have received field trip permission forms from the following students who will be attending the S.O.A.R. Field Trip on June 7, 2008:
Delaney M., Brylie P., Mallory S., Dawson F., Alaina S., Sabryna S., Tanner B., Tony B., Dylan M., Dylan B., Kolby R., Hunter C., Tristan M., Curtis B., Shaylin B., Masey B., Justin W., Ulysses B., Mary B., Shelbi F., Dominic S., Cory M., Nash R., Cameron S., Ashley C., Jamie T., Megan T., Ariel P., Jill L., Chloe T., Payne P. and Brandon M.
Tickets were ordered based on the permission slips that were turned in. There were a couple that were turned in after the deadline. If your child’s permission slip was turned in late a ticket was not purchased for them. If your child was unable to attend this outing, perhaps they will be able to take part in future field trips.
The students will have lunch at the Pizza Hut that day and will visit the Dairy Queen after their swimming time at the Aquatic Center. The bus will be back at the Education Building with your children at 4:00 p.m. Someone will have to sign your child out so be sure that whoever meets the bus is authorized to sign them out. We appreciate your help with this to alleviate any confusion on that day.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS WEEK
Mrs. Jane McDonald visited the S.O.A.R. classroom this week to begin a unit of study on mural painting. She instructed and guided our students in the process of “decorating” with mural painting. She will be visiting several times over the next few weeks to paint the front entryway of the Education Building.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Another field trip has been planned for Monday, June 23rd. The students will be boarding a bus that day after the regular summer school day and travel to Centerville, Iowa to go bowling. The students will eat supper at McDonald’s. I hope that all of our summer enrollees will be able to attend this fun activity. I will provide more information regarding this field trip in the weeks to come.
SUMMER ENROLLMENT
All students are encouraged to join in on the summer activities that have been planned for the S.O.A.R. Program. The following should help to answer any questions that you may have concerning the summer program. Please feel free to contact me should you have questions or need additional information.
Summer School – June
This session will run around the Putnam Co. R-I School District summer school. S.O.A.R. services will be available from 6-8:00 a.m. and 3:15-6:00 p.m. This session will run very similar to the regular S.O.A.R. program that runs from August through May. The fees for this session will be the same as they have been during the school year - $15.00/week if your child pays full price for their school lunch program; $6.00/week if your child receives reduced priced lunch; and $0/week if your child has free lunch status.
Summer School – Extended Session
This session will run from June 30th until school start. The first day of school will be August 20, 2008. The program will run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with breakfast, a morning snack, lunch and an afternoon snack being served. The fees for this program will be - $75/week if your child pays full price for their school lunch during the school year (or $20 per day if they do not attend all five days of the week); $30/week if your child receives reduced priced lunch for their children during the school year (or $10/day if your child does not attend all five days of the week); and if your child receives free lunch during the regular school year, they will pay $15 per week during the extended session with $5.00 being charged per day if they do not attend all five days of the week.
FULL PRICE FEES REDUCED PRICE FEES FREE LUNCH FEES
$30/week or $10 per day $75/week or $20 per day $15/week or $5 per day
AN ENROLLMENT FORM MUST BE FILLED OUT FOR EACH SESSION THAT YOU WISH TO ENROLL YOUR CHILD IN.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I had the opportunity to observe your children walking down the hallway earlier this week and noted the differences that I observed now as compared to earlier in the year. Some have grown taller this year. Others have more confidence. Still others have made additional friends. They are bright, happy, and energetic--and their enthusiasm is contagious. Their smiling faces brightened my day! Be proud, Mom and Dad. You are doing a great job! Enjoy your weekend with your families.
