And the Winners Are...

2008 Elementary & Middle School Spelling Bees Held

Putnam County R-I recently held its annual Elementary and Middle School Spelling Bees. Both spelling bees were held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in the Middle School Auditorium with the Elementary Bee at 9:15 a.m. and the Middle School Bee immediately following at 10:00 a.m.. Six participants from each of grades 3^rd through 8^th were chosen to compete. Elementary participants included: 3^rd grade—Katy, Logan, Jazmine, Bailey, Trevor, Calvin, (Kennedy was an alternate); 4^th grade—Julia, Keona, Austin, Kyle, Alexis, Claire (Nick was an alternate); and 5^th grade—Tyler, Anna, Riley, Jenna, Shaylee, Alan (Brooke was an alternate). Overall Elementary Spelling Bee winners include 1^st Place- Riley; 2^nd Place- Shaylee; and 3^rd Place- Katy.

Middle School Spelling Bee Winners: Christian (1st), Craig (2nd), and Brett (3rd)

Middle School participants included: 6^th grade—Rachel, Kristen, Alex, Brenton, Christian, Robert (Tamara was an alternate); 7^th grade—Casey, Craig, Allen, Myles, Riley, Brett, (Stephanie was an alternate); and 8^th grade—Colt, Stormy, Dylan, Jake, Becca, Brett, (Sarah was an alternate). Overall Middle School Spelling Bee winners include 1^st Place- Christian; 2^nd Place- Craig; and 3^rd Place- Brett.

All winners received medals as well as a savings bond donated by the Unionville Lion’s Club. The school would like to extend a special “thank you” to the Lion’s Club for donating all six savings bonds.
