THIRD GRADE READING HOMEWORK

by Angie O'Reilly

October 28, 2008

Our class is completing Reading Homework Practice each week.  This practice serves many purposes.  It helps students to practice answering multiple choice questions.  It also helps the students to practice oral reading fluency and retell.

Each Monday, students will bring home a short reading passage.  After completing the following activities, the students should return the reading passage with a parent's signature on Friday.

Reading Homework Practice Procedure:

Day 1:  Read the passage with your child.

Day 2:  Your child should read the passage aloud to you.

Day 3:  Your child silently rereads the passage and answers the questions.  Encourage your child to go back to the passage to find and check the answers.

Day 4:  Time your child for 1 minute as your child reads the passage aloud.  Put a bracket ] after the last word your child reads during the 1 minute timing.  Then time your child for 1 minute and have your child retell the story to you.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING YOUR CHILD TO BECOME A BETTER READER!
