Iowa, to tour the Iowa Speedway this week. This was the last field
trip of the extended summer sess. The students were asked to share
some of the things that they learned during their trip:
S.O.A.R. FIELD TRIP TO IOWA SPEEDWAY
The motorcycle was awesome and it had flames on it! -Cameron S.
Today is August 19, 2009. S.O.A.R. went to the Iowa Speedway. Did
you know there is 50,000 seats all together? Their racetrack is
seven tenths of a mile. Some people rolled on the finish line. Also
if you want to rent a suite for a year it costs $35,000. Before
there was a racetrack it was a cornfield. In 2005 they started
building the racetrack and in 2006 they finished it. I got to sit
in race car number 35. That was very cool. The race car 35 can go
250 miles per hour. Indy cars go 200. The spot car goes 140. They
garage can only hold 50 cars and if there’s no room they park in
the grass. After the winner in the race gets to celebrate with his
fans they drink pop. There was someone practicing with the Indy
cars when we were there. When we got to the suite there was an Indy
car on the ceiling that was cool. When we first got there there was
a big rock with Rusty Wallace and a race car on it. They we ate
lunch and had a race and went home. There is also a shopping area
and there was a motorcycle. –Mallory S.
A car is designed for testing and pictures. They go very fast. They
can fit 50 cars in a long garage. The track was 7/8 of a mile. I
got to sit in a race car. It was yellow. –Brylie P.
I got to walk on the track. I got to sit in a race car, #88. There
was a drag strip. The track was BIG! -Jack R.
I went in the race car number 19. We ate lunch at the park. We
played games at the park. We got to go on the track -author

I got to sit in a real blue race car (#12). I climbed in the window
because the door won’t open. The seat was comfortable. I liked the
blue car. They had a lot of cars. I want to be a race car driver
when I grow up. –Kimball L.
We ate at the park. And we went to the race track and we got to get
in the cars. –Kylie G.
S.O.A.R. visited the Iowa Speedway today. We got to get in the race
cars. Did you know that the speedway was a cornfield? -Hunter
C.
We took a trip to the Iowa Speedway. We saw and went on the track.
We saw and went inside the Nascars and got pictures. It was cool!
-Ethan G.
When we went to Iowa Speedway we went in to the garage. We got to
go in a Nascar. We got to run on the track. –Evan H.
My favorite part of the Iowa Speedway was getting to go on the
finish line and rolling across it. It was also cool getting in the
race cars. The racetrack was seven eighths of a mile. Also, it was
cool going back to look at the Iowa Speedway because I have already
gone there and watched the race. We also ate at a park and ran at
the park. –Emily S.
The two most fun things I did was roll down the finish line and I
got in a stock car. Did you know an Indy car can go 200 m.p.h.?
There are at least 50,000 permanent seats. There are drag strips,
motorcycle races and go cart races there, too. –author unknown
