Mike Schmidli Inducted into MHSFCA Hall of Fame

August 26, 2009

Putnam County Lady Midgets Coach Mike Schmidli was inducted into the Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Hall of Fame during a coaches’ conference in Columbia, Missouri, on August 8, 2009.

In his twenty years as head softball coach, Schmidli has led his teams to 15 Conference titles, 14 District titles, and 5 Final Four appearances. His overall career record is 379 wins, 88 losses, and 1 tie. He has a .812 winning percentage.

Roger Lower of Blue Springs and Mark Pettegrew of Mid-Buchanan were also inducted into the Hall of Fame in August.

Schmidli joins former Putnam Coach Max Mothersbaugh who was inducted into the MHSFCA Hall of Fame during its first year in 2006.

Schmidli taught at North Harrison High School in Eagleville, Missouri, from 1988 to 1997. While at North Harrison, he coached nine seasons of varsity softball with a record of 151–31-1. He coached in two state appearances there—in 1992, his team placed fourth and in 1993, they won the State title. In addition, he won seven HDC conference titles and was without a conference loss from 1990 through 1996. He left North Harrison with a 68 consecutive conference win streak.

At Putnam, Schmidli has accumulated a record of 228 and 57. He was part of a long streak of district wins that ended in the fall of 2008 with a 1-0 loss. He coached the Lady Midgets to State Titles in 1998 and 2003, and to a third place finish in 2004.

Coach Schmidli has been honored as Tri-Rivers Coach of the Year six times for softball and three times for basketball, Kirksville Daily Express Softball Coach of the Year, and 2004 NFHS Softball Coach of the Year for the state of Missouri. He is currently Class 2 Vice-President of the MHSFCA and also a former president of the organization.

Coach Schmidli is a graduate of the University of Missouri and has his Master's Degree in Education Administration from the University of Central Missouri. Schmidli just began his 13th year of teaching social studies and coaching at PCHS. He and his wife, Melissa, have two children, Kayla, a freshman radiology student at State Fair Community College, and Clay, a sophomore at PCHS.
