DISCIPLINE ISSUES
We are having some trouble with a few students not wanting to follow the rules and/or misbehaving on a very regular basis--both at the S.O.A.R. Program and on the bus ride home. This has led to a discussion with the S.O.A.R. administrators to implement a plan to alleviate the issues and make a more productive atmosphere for all students while at the afterschool program. The following discipline plan will be in place and effective beginning Monday, March 1st.
Regarding discipline issues: Any child who is written up for misbehavior requiring a consultation with the principal will be given a warning on their first offense and will receive an automatic three-day suspension from the program with their second occurrence. Subsequent office referrals will result in more severe consequences with each additional offense and may result in removal from the program.
Regarding bus discipline issues: Any child who is written up for misbehavior on the bus requiring a consultation with the principal, will be given a warning at their first offense and will receive an automatic three-day suspension from the bus with their second occurrence. Subsequent office referrals will result in more severe consequences with each additional offense and may result with the loss of all bus privileges.
The S.O.A.R. Afterschool Program is a privilege which should not be abused. If your child continually misbehaves they are robbing the other children of learning experiences and enrichment. If they are constantly misbehaving on the bus they could jeopardize their safety and the safety of others. Please talk with your children and impress upon them the need for their compliance with the rules. We want your children to be safe and we want them to conduct themselves in the proper manner, adhering to the program rules. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
EVENTS THIS WEEK
The S.O.A.R. students were very busy again this week. They sorted/categorized seashells from the Atlantic coast. Some of the older students also had the opportunity to do some research on the various seashells and the animals that once lived in the shells. They also enjoyed learning many new Math games. Some of these included Grocery Sack Math, Salute, and Addition/Multiplication War. They continue to work diligently on book report requirements to earn their Gold Reading Certificates at the end of the school year.
EVENTS COMING UP NEXT WEEK
Next week’s activities will include a continuation of the seashell unit as well as begin a unit on Robotics. They will learn some basics as well as learn about gear reduction. There will also be a guest visiting next week.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Theodor Seuss Geisel (March 2, 1904 – September 24, 1991) was an American writer and cartoonist. That name may not mean much to most people, but if you hear Dr. Seuss many stories will come to mind with their whimsical rhyming and nonsense characters. Dr. Seuss would have celebrated his 106th birthday on Tuesday if he were still alive. He wrote over 60 books for children during his lifetime. Some of them included, Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish Even though he is no longer with us it is great to have his books to share with our children.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT…
Did you know that on this date in 1963 the Hula-Hoop was patented. This toy was first marketed by the toy company, Wham-O in 1958 and the Hula-Hoop was inspired by a couple of individuals after they saw a wooden hoop that Australian children twirled around their waists during gym class.
The month of March brings us St. Patrick’s Day and many enjoy the fun that only leprechauns and “the Luck of the Irish,” may bring. I thought it fitting to share an Irish Blessing for you and your family. The weather is predicted to be a bit warmer and many of us can get out and enjoy the weekend with our family and friends.
IRISH BLESSING
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain,
May the rain fall softly on your fields,
And the sun shine warmly on your face.
Ms. Debbie, Miss Amanda, Mr. Michael, Ms. Nellie and Ms. Elladean
