A Plus Helpers at Health Fair
A+ students provided face painting at the Health Fair July 24, as well as golf cart transportation up the long commons walk. Being a good role model to younger students is one of the beneficial aspects of the A+ program. Savanah, Kailey, Casey, and Kristin helped make the Health Fair fun for the younger crowd.
A+ students also provided assistance during the recently-completed summer school. Twenty-nine students volunteered 1,391 hours, primarily in the lower elementary grades. The A+ students had fun and the younger kids loved having the special attention of a high schooler.
The A+ program provides financial support through free tuition and general fees at any Missouri public community college or technical school. To achieve A+ eligibility, the high school graduate must have completed 50 hours of tutoring/mentoring, maintain a 2.5 grade point average, have a 95% attendance rate, and keep a good citizenship record. This May, 36 PC graduates attained A+ eligibility and many will reap the financial rewards beginning this fall. The A+ tuition and fee benefit is good for six semesters over the four-year period immediately following high school graduation.
Students entering the ninth grade will have the opportunity to sign up for the A+ program at Freshman Orientation August 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school auditorium. Mary Comstock is the A+ Coordinator and may be reached at 660-947-3361, ext. 303 or at mcomstock@putnamcountyr1.net,
