Spring is in the Air!

Spring brings warmer weather, rain, outdoor fun, flowers, and….chicks!   We had the opportunity to hatch eggs for the last 2 weeks.  What fun it was to chart temperatures, time, and turn eggs.  But the fun had just begun!  We began hatching eggs last Monday, and it lasted until Thursday.  We hatched 8 eggs during the course of our week and then began to feed, water, and change the paper for our chicks.  The students each took turns learning responsibility.  We were able to aid in our learning experience with the materials provided by the University of Missouri Extension Office.  We had diagrams where we learned the parts of the egg, egg math, prediction sheets, and the basics of embryology.  Overall, students did a fantastic job of ”parenting”.  On Friday, we are proud to say that we were able to send all of our chicks home with one of our students to the farm where they are currently doing well.
