A Memorable Evening
Good Music, Good Food
Saturday night's Evening with the Arts was exceptional on several counts. The music provided by the high school chorus and bands ranging from fifth grade through high school seniors was simply outstanding. The turnout by the community and family members may have broken some kind of record on this seventh annual event. To top it all off, the food prepared by the Putnam County band boosters was just delicious. Students took turns performing and helping out serving to make it a very pleasant event for all present. Money earned supports band efforts including uniforms, equipment and travel; students are very much looking forward to a planned trip to San Antonio in 2013.
A quilt constructed as a collaborative textile project by high school Art students was raffled off with proceeds going to the all weather track project. Kathy Trier, a Lake Thunderhead resident, won the quilt. Ms. Trier graciously gave the quilt as a gift to Rhonda Hoover who had purchased many tickets in hopes of winning it. In all, the quilt project earned $507.
Ron and Teresa Kinzler were recognized for all their efforts supporting the arts, especially with news coverage in the Unionville Republican. The Kinzler family has been a constant presence at school events and is very much appreciated.
Mrs. Glenda Dinwiddie conducted the high school choir and accompanied them on four selections, including Coming Home featuring the Seniors. Five bands performed, all conducted by Ms. Jessica Nance. Fifth grade band showed off their ability to read parts (quite an accomplishment for students in their first semester of band!). They were followed by the sixth grade band, the middle school band and jazz band. The evening came to a close with the high school band playing four pieces, including the debut performance of the Unionville March especially written for our school by Robert Langenfeld. Mr. Langenfeld was present to hear his march performed by the Putnam County band.
Many thanks to all the people who worked so hard to make this Evening with the Arts successful.
