Track Upgrade Fundraiser
August 25, 2009
Dear Alumni, Businesses, Families and Individuals:
Putnam County R-I is embarking down yet another road of advancement.
Since the new high school was built in the early '70s, we have been a leader in Northeast Missouri. We have wonderful academic and athletic facilities. To complete our athletic facilities, we are in need of an all-weather track. Because we have one of the few remaining limestone tracks, it is difficult to attract track teams to attend our Marcus Hounsom Relays.
Track athletes want to run on the surface they will be competing on at Districts, Sectionals and State. The new track surface will also provide an opportunity to host additional track meets. For our student athletes, it will provide them with a quality training area. Now, they, as you and I did, run the streets and through the buildings for track practice in the spring. Both are unsafe and hard on our athletes’ bodies.
With the replacement of the football field lights and poles, walking lights were added, which has provided for evening walking along the track. We want this new track to be like our fitness center: a place for the school and community to work together and play together
Through our research we believe the cost of this endeavor is going to be approximately $325,000 to do everything necessary to complete this project. The Putnam County R-I School Board has budgeted $140,000 during the 2009-2010 fiscal year for this project. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for this project. Let me explain how this can be done: If we can get just 100 classes, businesses, families and individuals to donate $1,000 over a 3-year period or only $333 a year or $27.75 a month, we will meet our goal. We will accept any and all donations, though. It is our intention that once the track is complete, we will have a wall of recognition similar to the fitness center's.
I want to thank you in advance for your continued support of our efforts to improve upon the Putnam County R-I School District. Donations can be sent to the Superintendent’s office in care of Mary Comstock. All donations are tax deductible.
Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Heath Halley
