Our Building Trades Classes have been very busy so far this school year. Safety Test and correct tool and material usage are always a must for each group of Building Trades students.
This year we have been busy finishing the Prairie Trail bathroom located at the softball field. That project was very educational for the students. Concrete, metal roofing, plumbing, and installing doors were just a few of the components the students worked on.We will insulate the ceiling soon and have only a few touch-up items left to do.
This summer our student crew was involved in many projects around school. We replaced the plumbing in the kitchen, took out the old freezer and installed a new one, added to the parking area in the softball parking lot along with the addition of a handicapped accessible sidewalk to the ball fields.
We are getting ready to do some Public Improvement Projects soon, weather permitting. We will pour a concrete sidewalk along the north side of the school property in conjunction with the city sidewalk and downtown sidewalk replacement that is taking place this fall. Also, we will be replacing one of the shelters at the city park. That project should get underway about mid-October. This will be a post frame building and a shingled roof to match the other shelters that are there now.We will also do the concrete floor. Duane Behrens developed the plans and is directing the project for the city. Our Building Trades students are looking forward to getting started on these two Public Improvement Projects. The city and community have always supported Putnam County R-1, and it is nice to help out in return.
