Veterans Honored at Assembly

by Mary Comstock

November 25, 2009

A large crowd honored veterans at the recent Veterans Day Assembly.   National Honor Society organized the event.

The assembly began with the posting of colors by members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Monica Casady and Duane Crawford posted the POW/MIA flag.  Jamie performed the national anthem with an inspiring trumpet solo.

Fifth grade students presented their Old Glory projects to family during the assembly.  Tanner, Kara, Calvin, Abby, Wyatt, and Lydia read their projects at the assembly.  Each year fifth grade students write a paragraph about a character word and then transfer the words onto a flag.  The framed flags are a keepsake for each family.  While the projects were being presented to family, the high school and middle school bands performed “Grand Old Flag.”

Musical entertainment included two numbers performed by the high school choir.  The high school and middle school bands combined for the first time this year to perform two songs.  Talon and Jamie performed Taps to end the assembly.

Superintendent Heath Halley presented Duane Crawford with a certificate of appreciation for his service to our country and his ongoing commitment to community activities.
