FFA Coonhunt Held

This year’s annual FFA Coon Hunt was held on Saturday, December
5, 2009. Twelve teams competed with approximately 72 participants.
Registration began at 4:30 p.m. and lasted until 6:30 p.m. After
all the team fees were paid, the hunt began.
All teams were required to be back by 11:30 p.m. for check-in. This
year 92 coons were brought in by all the teams. During check-in the
participants could enjoy chili, hot dogs, chips, and cookies
brought in by FFA members.
The coon hunt champions were Dakota V, Darien V, Jacob V, C.L. V,
Dathan, and Brandon S. Their team brought in 25 coons. This team
also brought in the most opossums with a total of 2. The team
bringing in the largest coon was Trenton M, Skyler H, Klayton M, Ty
N, and Deion H. The coon weighed 20.5 pounds. The smallest coon was
brought in by Nyle K, Rick G, Wayne R, and Emily R. It weighed 5
pounds.
Competitors were also allowed to compete in a coon skinning
contest. In the adult division, Doug Hyle was the winner with a
time of 1 minute 7 seconds. In the student division, Dathan H was
the winner with a time of 2:55.
