DISCIPLINE ISSUES
We are having some trouble with a few students not wanting to follow the rules and/or misbehaving on a very regular basis--both at the S.O.A.R. Program and on the bus ride home. This has led to a discussion with the S.O.A.R. administrators to implement a plan to alleviate the issues and make a more productive atmosphere for all students while at the afterschool program. The following discipline plan will be in place and effective beginning Monday, March 1st.
Regarding discipline issues: Any child who is written up for misbehavior requiring a consultation with the principal will be given a warning on their first offense and will receive an automatic three-day suspension from the program with their second occurrence. Subsequent office referrals will result in more severe consequences with each additional offense and may result in removal from the program.
Regarding bus discipline issues: Any child who is written up for misbehavior on the bus requiring a consultation with the principal, will be given a warning at their first offense and will receive an automatic three-day suspension from the bus with their second occurrence. Subsequent office referrals will result in more severe consequences with each additional offense and may result with the loss of all bus privileges.
The S.O.A.R. Afterschool Program is a privilege which should not be abused. If your child continually misbehaves they are robbing the other children of learning experiences and enrichment. Please talk with your children and impress upon them the need for their compliance with the rules. We want your children to be safe and we want them to conduct themselves in the proper manner, adhering to the program rules. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
EVENTS THIS WEEK
The students are still working on those book reports. Keep up the fantastic work!!!! This week during their enrichment time they have worked on Math games, built bridges, worked on a Communication Arts project which studied big words and little words and topped of their week with a study of seashells which Miss Amanda and Mr. Michael brought back from the Florida coast. They worked on various ways to categorize the shells—a great project!!!!
NEW EXTENSION NUMBERS
The phone company visited the building this week to install a new part to make our phones work better. You may now reach the S.O.A.R. staff at extension 555 or 556. You will note that these were the original numbers that were used for the S.O.A.R. building.
THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING…
Unfortunately Putnam County continues to receive oodles and oodles of snow. I don’t know when I remember seeing so much snow in this area. The school has notified parents that buses will travel only on hard surfaces through the end of this week. If the regular school day buses are only running on hard surfaces the S.O.A.R. bus will do the same. It is out of our control and we just wanted to tell you that we appreciate your understanding. Hopefully, it won’t be long before the snow melts, dries up and the weather improves!!!!
Ms. Debbie, Miss Amanda, Mr. Michael, Ms. Nellie and Ms. Elladean
