Putnam Puzzlers

December 03, 2011
We have recently started a new program in the high school called Putnam Puzzlers. We create puzzles for students to solve every grading period, and the winner receives a prize. Each time they participate, students are entered in the grand prize drawing, which will take place at the end of the year. Our goal is to encourage our students to be critical thinkers through one more avenue. We have completed two rounds of puzzles so far, and Katie and Niki both walked home with $10 gift cards at local businesses.
Try this one:
Congratulations!
You passed the first test.
Now solve this
And take care of the rest.
There is a new mystery
For you to crack.
A certain man can teach history
And his name is not Jack.
Once you discover
The secret location
Use your words to uncover
With this citation.
“I come to you humbly
With one request
Please give me the clue
So I can be the best.”
There is a time limit.
This conundrum must be solved
By November 14
So the prize offering does not dissolve.
Katie knew she who to talk to, received another verbal and another written clue, then found the prize out near the softball field. The second prize was discovered this week under the Christmas tree in the commons. Encourage your child to compete. The year-end prize will be valued at no less than $100!
