December 2011 Newsletter

Reunions in Unionville Every Year on Labor Day Weekends

by Linda Davis

December 14, 2011

UHS/PCHS All-School Alumni Association

Those of us on the All-School Alumni Reunion Committee are delighted to have this opportunity to correspond with so many former students of Unionville High School (UHS) and Putnam County High School (PCHS).  Although the school names may be different, we all share memories of positive high school experiences in either the former building a few blocks south of the Kozy Korner or the beautiful new building on South 20th Street.  We are true-blue Midgets all!

We are proud to sponsor an annual reunion on Labor Day weekend for all former students of the two high schools, and we welcome inquiries from any recipients of this newsletter who are not familiar with the reunions.  Each year we honor the members of the classes celebrating their quinquiniel reunions, such as the 5th, 10th, 15th, and other five year anniversaries, and we especially highlight the 25th and 50th anniversary classes.  As a result, we will focus our efforts at the 2012 reunion on the 1987 and 1962 classes, and the program on Saturday afternoon, September 1st, will feature several members of both classes to talk about their memories of both high school friends and events.

The Putnam County R-1 School officials have been wonderfully supportive of the annual reunions, and we are indebted to them for their assistance.  At the 2011 reunion last September, we joined forces with the school in raising funds for a new all-weather track at the PCHS stadium, and we encourage all former students to respond favorably to the school’s appeal for additional funds to complete the new track.  We can assure everyone that the new track is needed to keep the Midgets competitive in track and field events and that the school officials will use the donated funds wisely and effectively.

We share a common bond of being educated by teachers and administrators who cared about their students in a small rural town that cared about its schools.  That is a winning combination, and we are fortunate to have enjoyed a common experience.  Therefore, we encourage all of you to “come home” once a year on Labor Day weekend to renew friendships and to support the current students, faculty, and staff!

More information about our annual reunions is available on the PCHS website at www.putnamcountyr1.net or by contacting Maribeth Torrey DeHaven at beth007@nemr.net or 660-947-2724, Ron Stuckey at rlstuckey@gmail.com or 660-947-2130, or Linda Davis at davislin@nemr.net or 660-355-4627.
