Go Shoeless Friday
Can you imagine not having a pair of shoes to protect your feet? Millions of children around the world do not have even one pair of good shoes to protect their feet. The new Putnam County R-I Interact club is sponsoring a Shoes for Orphan Souls event this week. Students and staff are urged to pay $2 and go shoeless Friday, April 13. Not only will money be raised to purchase shoes, participants will gain empathy for those that do not own a pair of shoes.
Along with the shoeless opportunity, money is being raised through a contest among the male high school teachers. Donation cans are being placed in the commons before school and during lunch for each teacher. The teacher with the most money in his donation can will have his toenails painted Friday during lunch! The teacher can “buy out” by matching the amount of money donated in his name, and then the second place teacher will face the same exciting prospect of having his toenails painted, or buy out, etc.
All proceeds will be used to purchase shoes at the local Dollar General store. The Unionville Rotary club will collect the shoes and see that they are shipped to children in Romania and Ethiopia. The Shoes for Orphan Souls event is organized worldwide by Buckner Ministeries.
