Raising Money and Having Fun

Shoes for Orphan Souls Project

Middle school and high school students are contributing their dollars to support the Shoes for Orphan Souls project through a variety of fun activities.  Wednesday was "Go Shoeless/Wear Crazy Socks" day, with each student paying $1 to go without shoes.  Thursday students can purchase cookies and ice cream at lunch - small for $1 and large for $2.  Tuesday April 22 will be Pajama and Hat day, requiring students to pay $1 to wear either or both all day.

In the high school, a week-long contest began Wednesday between each grade level.  One umbrella is hung upside down in the hallway for each grade.  Students are to toss change into their class umbrella.  The class with the largest donation will be allowed to eat outside on a warm day.

All donations will be used to purchase brand new shoes for the Shoes for Orphan Souls project.  Buckner International, based in Texas, collects shoes and distributes them to poor children throughout the world.  Unionville Rotary and PC Interact participate in the project each year.  This year the shoes will be sent to Peru.  Putnam County alumnus Amy Brundage is currently a teacher/missionary in Peru and will be involved with the distribution of the shoes.

For more information about Buckner and the  Shoes for Orphan Souls project, visit Shoes for Orphan Souls.

Putnam County Interact and Rotary are also accepting donations of new shoes.  Questions or donations may be directed to Mary Comstock at the school, 947-3361, ext. 303.
