Kindergarten News
Dear Parents,
We have had a good and busy second week of school! We have already begun learning/reviewing the alphabet (letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, and Ee) and some of our numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5). We are also learning about patterns (AB pattern), counting, and the days of the week during calendar time as well as reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The students have also had the opportunity to work with math manipulatives (teddy bear counters and pattern blocks) and place pictures on a pictograph. Of course, this is just a small fraction of what we have been doing this week!
Behavior: The students are beginning to adjust and learn our daily routines. The most difficult tasks for them at this time are remembering to raise their hands before talking, listening and following directions, interrupting while the teacher is talking, staying in their seats when they are to be working, and resting quietly at rest time. In addition, some students have wanted to visit/play during work time resulting in not finishing their work on time and having to complete it during recess. I certainly do not want students to miss recess unless absolutely necessary—they are cooped up in the classroom enough the way it is! Behavior cards are getting moved a little more each day, so please discuss expected school behavior with your child. Remember we only get two warnings and then we lose recess. I am positive next week will be better!
Handwriting Practice: In addition, your child might have come home this week with letter and/or number writing practice pages for homework to do. We are trying very hard to learn the correct method of forming/writing our letters and numbers but need some extra practice at home. Although we are helping them as much as possible here at school to tackle this task, it is very important that they practice with your help at home as well. I truly appreciate your help and support!
Snack time is working out very well. A big thank you goes to all the parents for remembering to send a snack with your child daily. I know how busy everyone is, but the students are really enjoying their snack by the afternoon.
Next Week:
- There will be no school on Monday, Sept. 1st for Labor Day. Also, the rest of the week we will be dismissing at 12:45 p.m. for the fair. We will not be having snack time and maybe a very short or no rest time all week due to early dismissal. Please be sure to make arrangements for your child for the early dismissals and always send a note if there is a change. I appreciate all of your help!
- Weather permitting, Kindergarten will attend the fair on Thursday, Sept. 4th from 9:00 – approximately 10:00 a.m. We will ride a shuttle from school to the fair and back. If a student does not have good behavior, they will be staying at school with another classroom teacher and not participate with the rest of the class at the fair. Therefore, please discuss with your child how important it is to always stay with their class and listen to the adults/teachers. Parents are more than welcome to meet us at the fair by the 4-H building at shortly after 9 a.m. to help supervise students if you wish. In addition, students will not need to bring any money since we will not be riding rides or visiting the food stand.
Reminders/Upcoming Dates:
- Every morning students may come to the classroom upon arriving to school and drop off their backpacks. Then they are to go to the gym where they may sit with their class or eat breakfast. When dismissed from the gym, they may go outside (weather permitting) from 8:00 - 8:10 a.m.

***NOTE: Due to the busy fair week, there will not be a newsletter in your child’s folder next Friday, Sept. 5th.
As always, please do not hesitate to call or email me if you have any questions, concerns, or comments (positive or negative).
Have a great Labor Day weekend!!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sara Ingersoll
