Semester Finals!

As the semester is coming to an end, each of my classes is wrapping up with a final or a chapter test.  Sixth grade Reading has just finished up a great unit over Old Yeller and will be reviewing for the test by playing Old Yeller Bingo on Monday.  Not only did we have a great time reading the story but we also learned about figurative language, how to make inferences, and how literature can reflect a culture and historic time frame.

Sixth grade Science students will be taking the chapter nine test over living things an introductory to cells on Wednesday December, 17th.  We will be playing Jeopardy on Monday and Tuesday to review for the test.  Students will be bringing home the Jeopardy questions as a study guide for the test.  Students will be expected to:

  • Describe the common life processes necessary to the survival of organisms (growth, reproduction, life span, response to stimuli, energy use, exchange of gasses, use of water, elimination of waste)
    • SC31A6a
  • Recognize all organisms are composed of cells, the fundamental units of life, which carry on all life processes.
    • SC31C6a
  • Predict the response the body may take to maintain internal balance during an environmental change (shivering when cold, slowing metabolism when food supply decreases or when dehydrated, adrenaline rush when frightened)
    • SC32D8a
  • Summarize the six characteristics of living things.
    • SC32D8a, SC31C6a
  • Describe the chemical building blocks of cells.
    • SC32D, SC32E

Seventh and eighth grade Elective will be taking the test over 19 Schuyler Place on Monday to wrap up the unit.  There will be a movie to follow the book for the last two days of class.  Sixth grade elective took their final spelling test today in class and will finish up the semester activities next week as well.
