Tanner to Compete at International DECA
What an exciting couple of months it has been for Putnam County DECA! In February, 14 students competed at District 2 DECA events in Columbia, Missouri. It was a very eventful and long, but successful day with four students advancing on to State Competition. Alexis placed first in Apparel and Accessories, Megan placed first in Quick Serve Restaurant Management, Tanner placed first in Automotive Services, and Jordan placed third in Retail Merchandising.
Alexis, Megan, Tanner, and Jordan then moved on to compete at the State Career Development Conference in Lake Ozark, Missouri on March 14-17. We had such a great time at State Competitions! Students were able to attend a Hypnotist show and a DECA Mega Dance Party. All of the students felt very confident in their competitions and attended debriefing sessions to improve their competition skills for the future. Nerves were high and there was much excitement as awards were called Tuesday morning. As awards were called, Tanner was called to stage and was announced as the Second Place Winner in Automotive Services and landed a spot to compete at the International DECA Competition in Orlando, FL on April 24-29th!
While Mrs. Fitzpatrick is busy making sure the paperwork is done and tickets are ordering, Tanner is busy studying and preparing for competition at the National level. It will be a fun and exciting week as we will be staying at Sea World and have opportunities to visit the ocean, hit the adventure parks, visit Kennedy Space Center, and so much more along with attending multiple conferences to enhance the DECA experience. Tanner will compete in the preliminary round on Tuesday morning, April 28.
