Putnam County FFA Attends 88th Missouri State Convention

21 Putnam County FFA members attended this years State FFA Convention

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., April 26, 2016 – FFA members from across the state  met in Columbia, April 21-22, at the 88th Missouri FFA Convention to honor fellow members for outstanding achievements, conduct association business, elect new officers and participate in leadership workshops.

Inspire Today, Influence Tomorrow was the theme for this year's annual convention, which  attracted more than 8,000 students and guests to Hearnes Center on the University of Missouri campus.

Twenty one members of the Putnam County FFA chapter attended this year’s convention and competed in various Career Development Events (CDES) and received awards.  The Putnam County FFA chapter had 5 teams competing in CDE’s, 3 members receiving state proficiency awards, and 2 members receiving the State FFA degree.  Those competing and receiving awards were:

FFA Knowledge team: Whitney R, Jaylen W, Hannah M and Delaney M.They placed 32nd at state and received a group II rating.   Whitney R received a group I medal.

 

Dairy Foods team:  This year’s team was Lauren R, Kyle B, Megan T and Hunter H.  The team placed 8th of 45 teams at State and received a group 1 rating. Hunter H and Kyle B placed 31st, and Lauren Renner placed 17th  all receiving a group 1 rating and medal

 

Entomology team:  This year’s members were Brianna V, Courtney G, Katey H, and Alisyn H.  The team placed 24th and received a group II rating.

 

Forestry team:   This year’s forestry team consisted of Tanner B, Derek L, Jacob H, and Gus V. At state contest they placed  16th and received a group II rating. Jacob H placed 15th and received a group 1 rating and medal..

 

Livestock team:  This year’s team was Katelyn G, Sara W, Ashlyn S, and Takota R.. At State competition, they placed 9th out of 58 and received a group 1 rating. Katelyn Gillum placed 7th out of 223 participants and received a group 1 rating and medal. Sara Webb placed 52nd out of 223 participants and received a group 1 rating and medal.

 

State Proficiency Awards:  Devin V received a plaque for being the area winner of Swine Production Placement and he was also the 2nd placed state winner.  Jacob Hreceived a plaque for being the area winner in Wildlife Management.  Courtney G received a plaque for being the area winner in Agriculture Communications.

 

State Degrees:  Courtney G and Hunter H both received the State FFA Degree, which is given to the top 3% of the state membership each year.  

 

The Missouri FFA Association has 25,920 members, ranking fifth as a state in membership. FFA strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.  Also attending this year’s convention were chapter advisors Randy Morris and Clyde Bondy.
