Welcome to 2nd Grade

Dear Parents,

I am looking forward to an exciting new school year and hope you are too! The students will be growing in many ways and we must keep an open line of communication to help ensure we are working together.  I am writing this in hopes to start that relationship with you early on. Below you will find a list of our rules and procedures.

Our classroom rules are:

  1. Always come ready to learn.

  2. Listen and follow directions.

  3. Use an inside voice.

  4. Be kind to others.

  5. Always do your BEST!

These rules will provide for a safe learning environment in which all kids are held accountable. These rules will ensure that all students are respectful to themselves and others.

We have a classroom management chart for discipline. Each student has four cards. They must flip a card for incorrect behavior. The card codes are:

Green: Great Behavior

Yellow: Lose five minutes from recess

Blue: Lose ten minutes from recess

Red: Lose all recess/ Principal’s Office/ Call parents

Friday Folders will be sent home every Friday. The folders will have a newsletter, notes, and their completed papers from the week. It will also have study guides for Social Studies and Science tests. I will send home the study guides at the beginning of each unit.  Occasionally you will find papers that are not checked, these papers have been completed as a whole group. There is no need to return them.

Milk break will be at the end of each day. Students may bring a healthy snack to have with their milk. Milk tickets may be purchased in the school office.

Book Reports will begin in October. Each student must complete 14 book reports to receive a Reading Circle Certificate. They will need 9 additional book reports to receive the Gold Star, which makes for a total of 23 book reports.

Baggy Books will be sent home every night. Students will need to read the same book each night until a new one is sent home. We send two different books each week.

Math Facts practice sheets will be sent home as homework as well. They will have a time limit on the top corner. The ultimate goal for the end of 2nd grade will be to complete 100 addition/subtraction facts in 5 minutes.

Breakfast in the Classroom will continue this year. The students will be served breakfast each morning in the classroom. There is no charge to the parents for this service. Every student will be served a breakfast.

Our specials will be each day from 12:30-1:20. I have included a specials schedule so that you will know when to send your child in tennis shoes for P.E.

I am also including a copy of our classroom schedule and a packet of papers for you to complete and return to the school office.  Please return the packet to the office as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at extension 337.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Trimble
