How does an increased assessment affect the school?

In an effort to keep our community informed, the Putnam County R-I Superintendent’s office wants to provide additional information regarding recent changes in assessed valuation. Many Putnam County residents were notified this summer by the County Assessor that this was an assessment year, and quite a few property values were adjusted. This did not result in a real windfall for the school district.  Although this does mean an increase in tax revenue due to the reassessment, the impact on the actual school budget is less than a one percent increase.  The amount budgeted by the Putnam County R-I School District reflects conservative proposals based on the current assessed valuation.
