Hello! From the Elementary Music Room

Mrs. Dinwiddie is back in the elementary music room for this school year!  I have enjoyed getting reacquainted with the students and we are settling into a routine.  Preschool and kindergarten students are echo singing with Mrs. Dinwiddie as well as singing songs to review colors and shapes. First graders are echo singing, learning to clap simple rhythms and singing fun "back to school" songs.

Second grade music students are excited to sing from their music books.  They are doing a great job of learning all the music symbols that they see on the printed page of music.  We have been focusing on learning the treble clef sign, the staff, a time signature and a repeat sign as well as clapping rhythms.  Third graders are also singing from their music book.  Along with singing, we are learning whole, half and quarter notes.  Our focus is what they look like, how to put them on the staff, and knowing the difference between lines and spaces.

We have been super busy in fourth and fifth grades.  They enjoy singing, but we are also spending a good deal of class time working on learning music symbols and how to write rhythms in 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4 time .  Fourth grade will go on to learn to read music that is written on the treble clef in preparation for playing the recorder.  Fifth grade will soon be starting to sing simple two-part music.
