The 4th grade class had a visit from a local author this week.  Jane Halley, former Putnam County R1 teacher and the grandmother of a student in our class, came to visit.  She read aloud her captivating children's book An Unidentified Flightless Object.  Mrs. Halley shared with the class the story of how she came to publish her book.  She was still teaching high school English when she and her husband had an unusual encounter on their family farm.  After an eventful evening at home, she shared what had happened with her students, and they encouraged her to write the story and publish it.  The book details what they found and how they each reacted very differently.  Mrs. Halley left the listeners in suspense, making them finish the book on their own to find out who the mysterious visitor to the farm was.  The 4th graders could not wait to finish the book, and luckily Mrs. Halley brought enough copies that she could distribute one to every student.  It was a great experience for the 4th graders, who were incredibly excited to READ to solve the mystery.  Thank you, Mrs. Halley, for visiting us and reading with us.
