Congratulations to Mrs. Hines

Congratulations to Mrs. Hines who has been named the MAEA Secondary School Art Educator of the Year! This prestigious award reflects the outstanding educator that she has demonstrated within the art education field. She was chosen by her peers as an exemplary educator who displays great leadership, commitment to teaching & accomplishments within the classroom & organization. We are so proud of you!

Mrs. Hines, the former Megan Finch, is a Putnam County R-1 graduate, class of 2003 .   She has given kudos to her PC Art instructor, Tonja Partridge as someone who has encouraged her to follow her dreams. After high school Mrs. Hines immediately attended Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, Iowa. From there she transferred to Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa and earned her BFA in Studio Art. After two years of teaching she earned her Master Degree in Art Education from Boston University. For  seven years Mrs. Hines taught 6th through 12th grade art in Milan, Missouri. Over her years of teaching she has been fortunate enough to help several students in the arts. In 2016 she had one student win the Fine Arts Essay Contest for the state of Missouri and another student win the top award at the Missouri State Capitol's Youth Art Month Exhibit, earning both students and Mrs. Hines a trip to NYC over the summer. One student was also awarded  a $42,000 scholarship to the School of the Arts Institute in Chicago. Recently, one of her seniors here at PC was accepted by the Kansas City Art Institute and awarded a $56,000 merit scholarship.  Mrs. Hines has chosen to return to Putnam County where her two children, Tyler and Carleigh, attend elementary and middle school.  Thanks for coming home to Putnam, Megan Finch Hines.

On January 10th during professional development time a small reception was held to allow everyone to congratulate one of our own on her well deserved award.
