A Busy Time of the Year!

Wow, it's been a really busy time in the Elementary Art room. An Art trip, art show, Christmas ornaments, homemade gifts, and end of the semester projects were all taking place.

Pre-School students worked on making gingerbread looking ornaments and paper plate snowmen. Kindergarten showcased Kandinsky inspired fall trees and winter landscapes in the art show. They also used pipe cleaners and beads to make candy cane ornaments. All enjoyed using clay to make snowmen ornaments in First grade. These students also worked hard on their Fall art projects which were a big hit at the art show. Students created crayon leaf rubbings, painted leaf prints made to look like trees, and masking tape birch tree landscapes. Second grade finished a Native American inspired art project and a mitten ornament. Metallic spray-painted clay stars were created by third grade after they finished their people in motion collages. Fourth graders finished weaving potholders and took them home as gifts. Those who finished took home cute mini stocking hat ornaments too. Fifth grade students had fun getting messy while making coil pottery. These projects were on display at the art show along with their collaborative American symbol paper quilt. Fifth grade also made snowmen from recycled tubes which hung on the courthouse Christmas tree.

Art Tag showcased cardboard non-objective sculptures at the art show. The Elementary 4th & 5th grade art club also had snowmen and polar bear paintings on display at the show. Art Club members had a ball at the end of November, where we enjoyed visiting the Truman college Art Gallery. Students were led in deep conversations over some of the elements of art, such as: color, line, shape, form, value and space. They also discussed emotions and feelings a viewer has and the artist's intent. I enjoyed the reactions students had to the gallery setting and artwork. This was the first time for many of my students to visit a gallery.
