Kindergarten & Preschool Enrollment Time

Screenings rescheduled for March 2nd.

Parents it’s almost time for Kindergarten and Preschool Enrollment—can you believe how the time is flying?  THIS IS MANDATORY ENROLLMENT FOR KINDERGARTEN AND/OR PRESCHOOLERS FOR THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR.  I know it seems early, but we need to make preparations for next year, and we need accurate numbers to do so.  Kindergarten Enrollment will be February 20th and 21st (Tuesday and Wednesday), and Preschool Enrollment will be February 22nd  and 23rd (Thursday and Friday).  Some were canceled due to weather last Thursday and will now be done Thursday, March 2nd.

You can call Mrs. White in the elementary office to schedule your child for these screenings (660-947-3361 ext. 318).

I thought it might be helpful to give you a little more information on what to bring and what will happen on that day.  On the day of the screening, you will need to bring your child’s birth certificate and a proof of residency for your family (i.e. Rental Contract, Real Estate Contract signed by all parties, Utilities Bill/Deposit Receipt, payroll check, driver’s license, W-4 employment documents or post-marked envelope received in the mail with your name and address on it).  Mrs. White will make copies of all of these items and will ask you to fill out some other paper work at the time of the screening.  You will also need to be able to provide emergency contact numbers.  During the time that you are filling out paperwork with Mrs. White and Mrs. McClain, the nurse or one of three other teachers will take your child for screenings.  Usually, we let the nurse do a vision screening first.  She will also need to look at your child’s immunization records and let you know if there is anything they will need prior to starting school.  After having their vision tested, Ms. Wickert or I will take your child for a hearing screening and follow with the speech and language portion of the DIAL-4.  After this portion is completed, your child will go to another station with another teacher to complete either the motor portion or the concepts portion of DIAL-4.  The motor section includes some hopping, throwing/catching, and cutting and the concepts section will focus on colors, counting, and other basic concepts.  The total screening takes about an hour with approximately 15 minutes at each station/room.  They will probably get a few stickers that dayJ

Also, if you are not interested in your child going to preschool, but do have concerns with whether or not their skills are where they should be, please feel free to contact me at the number below anytime and we can schedule a time for a screening.  You can also go ahead and sign them up for the Preschool Enrollment, and just let Mrs. White know that you are not interested in preschool at this time, but just would like to have the screening completed.   I can start serving students at age 3, so please let me know if there are concerns.

Again a list of items you will need to bring include:

            *child’s birth certificate

*proof of residency (i.e. Rental Contract, Real Estate Contract signed by all parties, Utilities Bill/Deposit Receipt, payroll check, driver’s license, W-4 employment documents or post-marked envelope received in the mail with your name and address on it).

            *child’s immunization records

            *emergency contact numbers

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks again for allowing me to work with your children—it is such a pleasure.
