Rounded ‘Em Up

Kindergarten and Preschool Round-up is Complete

Well, we have completed kindergarten and preschool round-up/screenings for the 2018-19 School Year.  We had good attendance and participation despite the icy weather we experienced.  Thank you to all the parents who took time to bring their kiddos to us.  Some of you even had to reschedule because of the missed day and morning of school.  Thank you for your flexibility and patience.

Results of the DIAL-4 screening will be sent to you in the upcoming weeks, and please let us know if you have any questions.  For preschool students, we will be going back through the screenings to see which kiddos may need further testing (if there were any concerns).  If your child would benefit from additional testing, we will be calling you in the next few weeks.  After additional testing is complete, we will know how many students we will be able to have for next year’s class, and at that time we will look at DIAL-4 scores to determine which students will be able to come.  While we would love to take all the children we screened for preschool, we are only able to take a limited number due to the criterion set up for an Early Childhood Special Education Integrated Classroom by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  We look at the students with the greatest need first, and we will take students who will be 4 years old by August 1st before students who are younger unless there is a concern.  Students are placed on the list in order of DIAL-4 Scores, and so students with the lower scores will be taken before students with higher scores.  This is in no way meant to “punish” students who do well on the screening, but rather to help those students who may not be as ready as those students with the higher scores.  Even if your child does not initially get in to preschool, don’t give up, as children sometimes move or circumstances change, and we will continue to take from our list throughout the year as we are able.  While I don’t have a specific date that you will know if your child will be able to attend preschool next year, I will try to know for sure by the end of the school year (May 15th).  Of course, I will let you know as soon as I possibly can as I know you need to make arrangements for next year, so hopefully you will know before May 15th.  Please contact me with any questions that you may have.  Thank you in advance for your patience in finding out and for your cooperation.  Oh, and by the way,  THANK YOU for sharing your children with us--we are truly honored and blessed.

Thanks so much,
