Check Out Channel One News

Each morning in the Middle School while the students are eating their breakfast, we do a sketch to stretch activity which involves watching the daily news and then journaling or drawing and discussing the events.  My first-period classes have watched Channel One News for a variety of reasons.  I find that the topics are pertinent, but also are entertaining and informative.  For the most part, Channel One does a great job of not being politically biased in their reporting. They often ask for viewer opinions and encourage students to call/email in with suggestions and ideas. While watching www.channelonenews.com students are engaged, interested and there is often a feel-good story of what other kids are doing to make their place in the world better.  I love the ideas that our students bring to the table.  I feel this is an important start to our day and have been thankful to have some amazing 8th graders that love to discuss what is going on in the world.
