Seeing What Fits

Message to Middle Schoolers: Put Down the Controller and Try Something New.

While sports are always popular, seventh and eighth grades are especially good times to ‘try something on for size’.  Middle school is a fork in the road for many students and kids sometimes lose their way. Even strong students may begin to lose interest.  Extracurricular interests can make such a positive difference. Learning new life skills and being part of a group boosts confidence and a feeling of belonging.  Giving it a shot, could be the first step toward a life-long interest. It’s ok if something doesn’t fit.

Trying something fresh is a proven way to keep kids interested.  Humans crave variety and the experience of succeeding at a new activity breeds further success.  With so much to keep in mind, here is a reminder of some of the opportunities available during middle school:

  • Band

  • Choir

  • Scholar Bowl

  • 8th grade talent show

  • Christmas talent show

  • MS play

  • 8th grade video

  • 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C.

  • Chess Club

  • Geography Bee

  • Spelling Bee

  • Middle School Yearbook

  • Read and Feed
