The Putnam County Middle School received word from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that it is one of 100 in the state to receive an eMINTS grant.
The 2007-08 grant was funded as part of Governor Blunt’s plan to raise achievement in the areas of math, engineering, technology and science. The goal of the program is to integrate high quality math and science curricula and teaching strategies powered by technology. The science teacher will receive professional development to help integrate multimedia technology into inquiry-based, student-centered, interdisciplinary, collaborative teaching practices that result in high levels of student performance. Begun as a demonstration project in 1997, eMINTS is a unit of the University of Missouri Office of Academic Affairs. It is a large scale, national program involving more than 1500 teachers and classrooms in Missouri and across the United States.
The state received 129 applications, representing 77 districts and charter schools. The 100 classrooms receiving funding represent 63 districts located across the state. Over 33 percent of the classrooms are in elementary schools, 40 percent are in middle schools and 25 percent are in high schools.
Our eMINTS classroom will be located in Mr. Lou Spase’s classroom. The room will be equipped with 21 laptop computers so that all students have access to the technology. Putnam County R-I will receive almost $30,000 to implement this grant.
